Grading System / Report Cards
The on-going evaluation of student achievement is one of the important functions of the teacher. Report cards are issued at the end of each nine week period. Each student is evaluated based on state grade-level academic standards, and IEP’s, using tests and other available assessment methods.
Kindergarten: In Kindergarten, a checklist reflecting academic achievement standards shall be used each nine weeks.
Grades 1-5: Numerical grades as specified shall be used to report student progress for each reporting period. Report cards shall reflect academic standards.
Numerical grades shall be used in Reading and Mathematics for grades 1 and 2. Numerical grades shall be used in all subjects for grades 3-5.
MS for Meets Standards, MPS for Making Progress Towards Standards, and NMP for Not Making Progress Towards Standards shall be used in art, PE, and music in grades 1-5. In grade 1, MS, MPS, and NMP shall be used in ELA (English/Language Arts), Science, Social Studies, and Handwriting. In grade 2, MS, MPS, and NMP will be used in Handwriting.
MS – Meets Standards 77-100
Communication sheets are sent home twice monthly on the school day closest to the first and fifteenth, unless this time coincides closely with report card dates. A parent must sign and return the communication sheet to school.
